Category: Crossing and Uncrossing

Simply put, crossing refers to spiritual works that cause harm or bad luck, while uncrossing refers to works that reverse it. In contemporary Africa, magick done with malintent is considered to have its roots in unresolved anger, jealousy, and envy. The major factor of import lies in the intent of the practitioner.

In commercial hoodoo, there are a number of products used to aid in putting an end to crossed conditions, particularly when used in conjunction with one or more of the psalms. For example, products such as uncrossing crystals, oils, sachet powders, incenses, and even chalk are believed to be particularly effective when used in conjunction with the 37th psalm. The word cross is virtually synonymous with the words hex, jinx, and curse (Alvarado 2011).

Examples of Crossings, Cursings, Hexes, Jinxes and Fixes

TO CAUSE CONFLICT
Scatter guinea peppers in all rooms of the house and watch those who live there bicker.

CHARM TO BIND AN ENEMY
Grab a handful of cobwebs from around the home and place  in  a small black fabric square.  Add a dead insect to represent the enemy along with a some Spanish Moss and mimosa and a personal effect of theirs, like hair or nail clippings. Tear a small piece of brown paper bag and write on the paper what you want to see happen to the enemy in one word, like “DIE”, “SUFFER”, “SICK”, etc. Anoint with an appropriate conjure oil. Tie everything up in the fabric and hang in the darkest, dankest part of the basement and leave it for three months. After three months, take the charm and bury it in a cemetery to seal the deal.
THE DRAGON'S BLOOD CURSE
Wrap a piece of ginger root. Dragon's Blood, and a lime in a dracaena leaf. In the Solomon Islands, the dracaena is believed to have come from the grave of a sea spirit. Lay the bundle in the path of your target. When your target steps on or over it, distress will befall him or her. See Foot Track Magic for more information on this kind of conjure doctor trick.

Examples of Uncrossings, Reversals and Wards

TO REMOVE A CONJURE
To remove a conjure, place 9 needles, 9 brass pins, 9 hairs from the head of the afflicted into a bottle or jar, cover with their urine and close. Set it behind the fireplace and when the bottle bursts, the conjure will be broken

TO REVERSE A CONJURE
To reverse a conjure placed on your home, walk counterclockwise around your home while sprinkling a blend of powdered crab shells and white cornmeal and reciting Psalm 48.
MARIE LAVEAU CHARM AGAINST BAD LUCK
A Marie Laveau charm to ward off bad luck consisted of a rabbit’s foot, gold ore (probably pyrite) and a magnet wrapped in a piece of chamois cloth and tied shut. This was carried on the person for protection and repelling negativity.

TO REPEL NEGATIVITY
A bottle fix to repel evil and negativity consists of coarse white sand, large red ants, and 9 nails and pins placed in a bottle and covered with a bit of urine from everyone in the home and placed under the front steps is believed to be effective

TO WARD OFF EVIL
A pocket Bible or Book of Psalms held in the bra or a front shirt pocket is said to ward off negativity and evil spirits.

TO WARD OFF EVIL
Take a sack of salt and draw a cross on it while saying “In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost”. Place the sack under the front porch for an effective ward. Pour some out in the form of a cross on your front porch and moisten with Holy Water for an effective ward.
